Centre for Creation and Residencies

The Estudi General Lul·lià is a place where research, artistic creation and contemporary thought meet. Through residencies, laboratories, grants and cultural initiatives, it drives projects connecting heritage, innovation and community.

The Estudi General Lul·lià is a centre for creation of 3,000 m² in the heart of Palma's old town, supporting research, artistic production and the exchange of knowledge. The centre runs its own programmes of grants, residencies and support for creative work, enabling artists, researchers, writers and other practitioners to develop their projects in an interdisciplinary, stimulating environment connected to Mallorca's cultural context.

Faithful to Ramon Llull's legacy and open to contemporary challenges, the Estudi General drives initiatives that build bridges between the arts, the humanities, science and society. Its principal projects include the Laboratori Llull, dedicated to research and contemporary creation inspired by Lullian thought; the programmes of artistic residencies and international creation grants, which encourage mobility and exchange between artists; and Ulls de Dona, a programme dedicated to cinema from a woman's perspective that promotes critical thinking and cultural dialogue.

Through these initiatives the Estudi General has established itself as a leading centre for artistic production, research and contemporary creation in Mallorca - a living, open space that brings together artists, researchers, institutions and the public, and helps strengthen the island's cultural ecosystem. Local and international at once, the Estudi General is committed to culture as a driver of knowledge, innovation and social change.

What we do as a centre for creation

The Centre for Creation is built around several programmes and initiatives supporting
research, artistic production and dialogue between heritage and the contemporary.

Laboratori Llull. Thought, research and contemporary creation
The Laboratori Llull is a space for research and experimentation that brings Ramon Llull's thought up to date through contemporary creation. Each year it produces installations, performances, exhibitions, concerts, publications and interdisciplinary projects connecting the Lullian legacy with the arts, the humanities and science.
Creation Grants. International open calls for new projects
The Estudi General Lul·lià runs its own programmes of grants and awards for artists and researchers worldwide. The calls support artistic research around the thought of Ramon Llull and the popular culture of the Illes Balears, providing funding and mentoring for selected projects.
Artistic Residencies. Spaces to create, research and live together
The centre has apartments and workspaces where artists, researchers, writers and other practitioners can develop their projects in residence. The programme encourages international exchange, interdisciplinary research and connection with Mallorca's cultural context.
Projects and Programme. Activities connecting heritage and creation
Throughout the year the Estudi General Lul·lià runs a regular programme of activities including performances, concerts, readings, installations, gatherings and other contemporary work.

Inspired by the Académie du Climat in Paris, it is an independent, citizen-led initiative driven by organisations committed to the environment and to social justice.

LLULL LAB
